What is transition coaching?

Transition coaching is a type of coaching that helps people leaders transition from their previous role to a new one. It can help leaders transition from their previous role andd start to think about what the first 90-100 days looks like in the new role by giving them a safe space to work through the transition. 

  

When is it useful ? 


As the name suggests, it is most useful and impactful when you transition to a new role either internally into the same organization or join a new organization. 


Internal promotion : Many times organizations promote skilled professionals to manage others because of the individual success they have demonstrated but do not provide them the support during this important transition. The lack of support during this crucial transition results in the inability to manage others effectively, poor individual and team performance, poor decision making, inability to delegate and increased stress levels along with the possibility of burnout. 


Stepping into a new management position provides the opportunity to reflect on who you are as a manager. Developing this intentional self-awareness practice can be the difference between becoming a successful manager, who inspires and motivates, versus one who is disconnected from their team and fails to get the best out of their people. 


New managers need to learn about the skills and competencies required for managing teams, such as creating a psychological safe environment, creating open communication channel, defining team success, setting the right goals, managing performance effectively, giving feedback to team members and building the right team.
